For those [...] who are not familiar with this Pacific Northwest tradition of questionable sanity a very brief synopsis:
Snow camp is an open invitation to spend a weekend in the middle of February for those with a deeply seated tendency towards sadomasochism.... Those who harbor the desire to spend a weekend slipping and sliding around on a motorcycle as you climb up to 5,400 ft. of the 14,410 ft. summit of snow-covered Mt. Rainier along with those of like-mind have the opportunity to gather (and spend the night) at a campground located, mercifully, at the lower elevation of 2000 feet. Much time is spent trying to stay warm, which partly explains the abundance of domestic critters who unwittingly join their shivering owners to huddle round the campfire, tell tall tales and eat and imbibe all sorts of tasty consumables.
Highlights this year included two deep-fried turkeys, which disappeared faster than a cartoon might have depicted the event, some hand-brewed barley juice, some delicious marinated flesh from the meat-master himself, Wayne Elston, compliments of Ride West BMW. Tacoma BMW and Ride West BMW and Washington State BMW Riders were all instrumental in making this bash a smash as well as many other wonderful contributions from numerous generous individuals to make for a great party all weekend long! As Eric pointed out, the weather was quite mild, and the road to the top was forgiving and clear. As you can see from my pics at the top (46-51) we managed to find some snow coming down on Sunday afternoon up there. I'm sure a great time was had by all!
Thanks to all who made it happen!
Best,
Marco
